Is there any extra hardware that we need in order for the trigger solenoid to be activated via an ethernet connection?

No. Generally cash drawers are connected directly to your POS system’s receipt printer. There is an RJ9/10 connector on the underside of your receipt printer that corresponds with the cable on this cash drawer.
